Help a newbie with mods

Hi all, i have NEVER used mods before on WoW.

I read the stickied faq but it didnt help me.

I downloaded a cartographer pack off this website, i unzipped it and copied all the addons that were in it into the add on folder. I then started WoW and it didnt work...

THe pack was outdates, like it hadnt been updated for the patch or whatever but i cant find any thing in my in game options about "loading out of date addons", im confused.|||Quote:

OK, go to the character screen first visible after you log on - the one that says under the character 'enter world' - to the left is a little 'Addons' thing. Click on it and you'll get a new screen. One of the options there, up to the right, is 'load out of date addons'. Click that and it should thereafter make (most) outdated addons work.|||the one on this site is almost 1 year out of date, i suggest you try one of the other mod sites for that mod.|||hrm thanks for your help but there is no button to the left of my character screen... none at all... wtf?|||then you arent installing your addons correctly, are you on XP or Vista?|||Quote:

Then the addon is not installed correctly. Have a look at your whole Warcraft file. There should be an 'Interface' one that has another, 'Addons' within it.|||C:\Users\Public\Games\World of Warcraft\Interface\AddOns\Cartographer-v2.5.4

That is where i have installed it.

I am on vista

Is that correct?|||your Cartographer folder is wrong I think. It should jsut be "Cartographer" or "Cartographer_Notes" etc.

Maybe take the folders out of the Cartographer folder and put the directly in to the Addons folder?|||You put the zip file in the addons folder by the looks of it.|||Quote:

To make addons REALLY simple, go LINK REMOVED and download it for your system. When you open the program you can search for almost any addon and download it quickly and efficiently. I highly recommend it, and even though it's losing support it still updates most addons well. Good Luck!

I believe the site you linked has a bad reputation, for good reasons - eg. taking people's addons without asking, hence Lothaer removed it.

We're working on getting an addon updater going again, but in the mean time there are plenty of legitimate ones out there, just do a search
