Curse / wowUI / wowMatrix

I have used them all and i ended sticking with wowMatrix...

I would love to hear the full story....|||Me too. I just heard a mention of it yesturday for the first time. What's going on?|||To quote wowinsider:

"WoWMatrix is a program of dubious morality. It sucks down bandwidth from sites like Curse and WoWInterface like crazy, and displays its own ads while doing so."

So you can see why the other sites are trying to block it.|||Hmmm why cant all 3 of them sit down and talk i mean wowmatrix is far superior to any other updater out there currently...

(and that is an end of)

Most other's keep runing while you play wow = stealing you'r Bandwith while playing

Maybe WM could make their own site ?

Maybe WM could offer thier design to the other sites ? (not likley mind)

And whats this rumor of curse i think it was wanting to charge for membership ?

If that is true then i doubt there gona last much longer any way...|||Whats wrong with the old fashioned "download it yourself, virus check it, install it" option?

I wouldn't use an automatic downloader no matter how safe it appear. If I can't verify the files before they get unzipped then it's not touching my PC.|||Quote:

I have read the articles and I think what Curse and Wowinterface has done is childish and irresponsible. To the average user like myself Wowmatrix was easy to use, fast and all the addons were in a central location. Now we have to contend with two unstable sites. Wowinterface has been down all day long because of the overload this who cluster____ has created.

How about the three site down and work this out like adults instead of screwing things up for use average users. Shame on the!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!|||Quote:

They are being childish.... Not really.

The most basic example I can relate this to is that there are two stores, and one guy with a robin hood complex going in and stealing stuff from both stores to give away. Is it childish for the store owners to try to prevent that from happening? No. What Wowmatrix does costs these sites money. They don't get the hits to their website, people don't click on the ads they have on their website, and they don't get paid. What they are doing is perfectly viable.

Does it suck for those who used wowmatrix? Yes it does, but I will manage by updating my own mods, and I suggest you do the same instead of throwing a tantrum about it.

Furthermore, if Wowinterface is crashed, wowmatrix wouldn't have been able to access it to download your mod updates either. Mod sites are always swamped during major patches. Just be patient.|||I think you are missing the more important point.

WoWMatrix directly violates addon author copyright, that is illegal and immoral.

Hosting often out of date, intentionally-modified versions of the official addon causes problems for both the end user and the author.

I know that personally WoWMatrix hosted versions of my addons that were 2 patches out of date, plus contained code that was *not* mine, therefore I received a whole slew of support requests for bugs that didnt actually exist.

I of course contacted WoWMatrix, who outright refused to remove them from their list - that is illegal.

If WoWMatrix were to actually ask the authors permission, or at least respect requests to remove an addon, plus use their *own* bandwidth to host the files - there would be no problem.

Since they have been unable to grow a conscience of their own accord, I hope that this move now forces one upon them.|||My bad wow interface not (wowUI)

Well ill be honest here and say i will be using WM untill one of the site's bring out an addon updater that rival's wowMatrix (think what you want)

Im somewhere around the hundred mark for addons

(so manuall is not really an option)

WM is the only updater that can update them all in one CLICK...

I dont know if they have been trying to stop WM yet mine's still working fine

and at that last post i dont really see how WM could have hosted an out of date addon of your's as soon as you install an addon with it it updates the damn thing

Allso i would imagine that added code is something to do with updating procces.

And as you all know it gets the addons from OTHER resources.

Basically Curse / wowInterface need to pull their finger out of their ***

and make a damn good updater for all system's end of !

What WM is doing is wrong sure im not defending them im just saying the benefits i and many other's get from it...|||Quote:

But since you will continue to use it, what you are saying is you don't have the ethical standards to stop using something you know is wrong....? Grow a spine and put up with some inconvenience in order to do the right thing. It's like buying stolen property. Sure, you didn't do the stealing, but by supporting the thief you encourage him/her. Make no mistake wowmatrix steals bandwidth from the addon sites and by using wowmatrix you are essentially buying stolen property.
