[:1]hi, im starting to get into raids and heroic dungeons, aswell as PVP areans and BG's, I have shad priest and Holy/Prot Pala.
My question is what add ons would you suggest to someone who has never really used them, apart from recount.
I dont know how best to target either, I have TAB as target nearest ememy player, i have a small screen so the raid frames take up all the space when i play AV for instance. IS there an addon that can only show me the people in my heal range or something? I have 1-6 bound and f1-f5 bound with my most popular spells, but im allays faffing about trying to target, and not actually healing.
Well thanks for any help, it will be needed, I guess i just want to know your most useful addons, macros for a budding wow player.
many thanks|||For healing, you really want some sort of raid frames. The default ones will get the job done, but if they are too big for your screen, there are addons that give you more adjustment options.
The main healing raid frames are:
Grid This is a lightweight modular frame setup. You need to spend a fair amount of time configuring it for healing. It doesn't include mouse healing, so you will either need mouseover macros or Clique for best results.
Vuhdo It's basically the same thing as grid but with a different design philosophy. Instead of Grid's modular nature (that requires downloading separate addons for features you want) it already includes pretty much everything. Mouse healing is build in.
Healbot This is the simplest one to set up, and is probably the least customizable. I would say it's the closest to the default frames, but obviously with a lot more options. It's a good choice if you like the default frames but want more control over some aspects (like size.) Mouse healing is build in.
I'm not going to get into which is best, as it's really about personal preference. All of them will let you set up fading for people not in range. (They will also let you set up this fading to be a lot more noticeable than it is in the default frames.)
You also saw me mention mouse healing. While targeting to heal works (and some people find some advantages to it) most healers end up using mouse healing of some sort. What this means is that instead of targeting someone and then casting a heal on them, you put your mouse over their raid frame and then just click a mouse button (or keybind) and the heal casts on them without the need to actually target them.
Clique and the built in functions of Vuhdo and Healbot let you assign mouse clicks to different heals. So, for example, you can set Right Click to flash of light. Now, when you right click someones frame, it starts casting Flash of Light.
The other option is mouseover macros. The main advantage here is that it lets you use keybinds instead of mouse clicks. Mouseover macros are pretty simple:
/cast [@mouseover, help] Flash of Light
This macro will cast flash of light on whatever friendly target your mouse if currently over. (This means their raid frame, or the player themself out in the game world.)
Clique vs mouseovers is a silly debate. One lets you bind stuff to your mouse and the other to keybinds. Just do whatever fits your style better. Many healers use a combination of the two.
Now, as for targeting enemy players, you are largely dependent on either clicking them or tab targeting like you've been doing. Turning on nameplates helps a lot, and you can use a mod like TidyPlates or Aloft to make them look less obnoxious. I've also found that using mouseover macros for my offensive spells can help as well, especially for things like dispels and interrupts. Then, you don't have to actually target them, you can just hit the keybind when your mouse is over their nameplate.|||This is exactly what i needed, thanks for posting. Well at the moment im trying to configure heal bot, ive got clique too, but i want to look at vhudo.
Phew, a lot to think about, thanks again
